Illinois left as only state to withhold concealed carry ban

By admin in Illinois at June 24th, 2011 | No comments

Wisconsin is set to become the 49th state in the nation to legalize concealed carry, leaving Illinois as the only state left to withhold the ban.

The Wisconsin House and Senate both passed the bill, which will allow citizens to carry concealed handguns, with bipartisan support. The measure now goes to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker for his signature.

The legislation requires residents to obtain a permit, unlike states like Alaska, Wyoming, Arizona, and New Hampshire where citizens can carry open and concealed handguns without a permit.

Governor Pat Quinn says it’s unlikely that Illinois will allow concealed carry anytime soon. Legislation to legalize carry concealed handguns in Illinois was voted down in May.

The Most Dangerous Cities in America

By admin in Crime, Criminal Records, Illinois, Police Records at June 1st, 2011 | No comments

According to yahoo.com, crime has not alleviated in America’s most troubled cities, even though the recession has eased. Though most regions of the U.S. saw declines, the Northeast saw an increase in murders (8.3%), rapes (1.4%) and aggravated assaults (0.7%). PERF (The Police Executive Research Forum) Executive Director Chuck Wexler told Reuters, “We are not saying there is going to be a crime wave, but we are saying this is a wake-up call and we anticipate the situation will continue to deteriorate.”

Here are the 10 most dangerous cities in America, as of this year:

1. Flint, Mich.
Population: 109,245
Violent Crime Per 1,000: 22
2010 Murders: 53
Median Income: $27,049 (46.1% below national average)
Unemployment Rate: 11.8% (2.8% above national average)

The number of violent crimes committed in Flint increased for all categories considered for this list between 2009 and 2010. Perhaps most notably, the number of murders in the city increased from 36 to 53. This moves the city from having the seventh highest rate of homicide to the second highest. The number of aggravated assaults increased from 1,529 to 1,579, a rate of 14.6 assaults per 1,000 residents, placing the city in the No. 1 rank for rate of assaults. Flint police chief Alvern Lock stated late last year that he believed the city’s violence stemmed from drugs and gangs. Flint has a relatively small median income of about $27,000 per household. The city also has a poverty rate of 36.2%.

The tech left the office telling Blagojevich’s people that no listening devices were found.

But the bugs were, in fact, in place, the FBI was listening, and the State Police employee even knew where they were but pretended not to detect them. Read the full article »
