Seven teenagers were charged yesterday morning for an attack and robbery of another teenager on Chicago’s south side. The attack was caught on video and went viral on YouTube.

The attack took place around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday in an alley behind an elementary school. Six boys and a 15-year-old girl are accused of participating in the beating and robbery of a 17-year-old male.

Only one of the attacker’s names is being released because he is the only one in the group who can be charged as an adult. He is 17 year-old Raymond Palomino, a student at Kelly High School. He is being charged with robbery and aggravated battery.

The other six attackers – two 16-year-old boys, three 15-year-old boys and the 15-year-old girl — were charged as juveniles, also with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated battery. Their names were not released due to their ages.

The video posted online shows five males kicking and punching the victim while taunting him with racial slurs. The victim was eventually able to run away. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Items stolen from the victim were a pair of gym shoes, a wallet and cash.

Although the victim is of Asian descent according to The Associated Press, police say the crime does not appear to have been racially motivated. Read the full article »

Two stolen taxicabs were located and one robbery suspect was captured because GPS tracking devices were installed on the taxicabs.

Stolen Taxicab Tracked in Denver

In the first incident, a man was arrested in Denver, CO this past Wednesday after law enforcement officials said he stole a taxi, robbed a convenience store and then led police officers on a chase that ended when he crashed the cab into a tree in a park.

The suspect stole an orange Union Taxi mini-van and then drove it to the Diamond Shamrock convenience store at around 1 a.m., according to a local police report.

The man robbed the convenience store and then took off in the stolen cab. The taxi was equipped with a GPS tracking device, allowing police to track the precise location of the vehicle. The suspect led officers on a chase. The chase ended with the cab going off the street and onto a sidewalk, where he then smashed into a tree near downtown Denver.

The police took the man into custody and the suspect was taken to a hospital to have his injuries checked out.

Stolen Taxicab Found in San Antonio

In a similar incident, a cab driver had his taxi stolen from him at gunpoint in San Antonio, TX.

Cesar Alvarez told police he picked up a fare at a motel around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. After driving the man to his destination, he found himself staring into the barrel of a gun. Read the full article »

Man Jailed After Facebooking a Store Burglary

I am always shocked at how much personal information people are willing to share on their social sites, but seriously, this is definitely a case of TMI (too much information).

An 18-year-old Pittsburgh man is accused of burglarizing a market with three teens, then posting pictures on his Facebook page showing the suspects posing with some of the loot.

Isaiah Cutler has been in jail since last Friday for the Dec. 12th burglary.

Police say 17-year old Cutler and two 14-year-olds stole more than $8,000 worth of cash, cigarettes, candy, and checks from the business. About an hour later, police say, Cutler posted pictures of the teens posing with the loot on his page on the social networking site.

Well, I guess they’re just stupid kids,” Detective Valerie Milie said Monday. “They thought they could put (the pictures) out there for their friends who friended them on Facebook to see. But the one kid had 200 friends, but not only were they friends, some of them were relatives who became concerned and called police.”

Police were already tracking down the teens based on the Facebook photos and the surveillance video from the store by the time the parents determined what happened, Milie said.

The younger suspects have been charged in juvenile court and have been released to their parents.

Cutler faced a preliminary hearing yesterday on charges of theft, burglary and conspiracy.

Would-Be Thief Gets a Surprise Punch

By Dawn in Crime, MSI Detective Services, Mug Shots, robbery at December 28th, 2011 | No comments

A would-be thief tangled with the wrong man. 25-year-old Mostafa Hendi walked into the the We Buy Gold shop in North Carolina yesterday and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk, Derek Mothershead, wasn’t taking any gruff.

After reaching to give the armed robber the cash, Mr Mothershead gave him something else - an unexpected punch, knocking him to the floor. Surveillance camera footage caught the moment.

“When he came through the door, he told me had a gun and he even flashed it,” Mr. Mothershead said. I stood up and threw my hands up and said, “Take the money.”

The thief came behind the counter and Mothershead went to pass him cash from a drawer.

“When he reached out, I took a step in, I cocked back and preloaded and I hit him hard,” Mothershead said.

When the thief came to, the clerk forced him to mop up his own blood from the shop floor with paper towels and cleaner.

Mothershead also grabbed the man’s weapon, but said he laughed when he realized it was just a pellet gun.

Paramedics took the man away on a stretcher and Mr. Mothershead’s handywork can be seen in Hendi’s police mugshot, where his face looks bruised and swollen.

He remains behind bars on a charge of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Store manager Juaz Cruz added: “Merry Christmas Mostafa Hendi.”
