A 16 Hour workshop includes 2 days of instruction and hands-on lab work with real cell phones in a fully equipped lab setting.  Mobile Forensics topics that will be covered include: Acquisition, Preservation, Analysis and Presentation of CDMA, GSM, and iDEN cell phone evidence, SIM Cards, and Memory Cards, Faraday Preservation, and applicable Laws.

Students should have basic computer knowledge with the ability to work in a Windows environment. Each student will be required to furnish their own laptop containing either a Windows XP or Windows 7 operating system. Laptop should have CD reader and free USB ports.

Good Guy Hacker Builds $1500 Cell Phone Tapping Device

A hacker wanting to demonstrate the security holes in our current GSM Cellular Phone network built a device that can listen in on and tap cell phone conversations on some carriers. This device is most likely totally illegal states an FBI spokesman. But this hacker is not trying to gain corporate secrets or steal your credit card information. He is simply showing the world and hopefully the cell phone companies that this cell phone eavesdropping device is not only possible but easy and cheap to build.

The attack Chris Paget showed Saturday illustrates weaknesses in GSM, one of the world’s most widely used cellular communications technologies.

“GSM is broken – it’s just plain broken,” he said.
GSM is considered 2G, or “second generation,” cellular technology. Phones that run on the newer 3G and 4G standards aren’t vulnerable to his attack.

Android App Aims to Allow Wiretap-Proof Cell Phone Calls

Forbes.com is reporting that an independent hacker has launched an application that make your android phone wiretap-proof! So if you are worried about the NSA, the FBI, criminals or cyberspies electronically eavedropping on your private phone calls, this may be a countermeasure.

On Tuesday, an independent hacker and security researcher who goes by the handle Moxie Marlinspike and his Pittsburgh-based startup Whisper Systems launched free public betas for two new privacy-focused programs on Google’s Android mobile platform: RedPhone, a voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) program that encrypts phone calls, and TextSecure, an app for sending and receiving encrypted text messages and scrambling the messages stored in their inbox.
